SWEATER WEATHER

‘Tis the season! Winters in Los Angeles are a little warmer than the average, which we appreciate given that we’re usually in a pool more days than we’re not.

Recently we collaborated with LA-based photographer Katie Parker Rixon, but not in our usual environment. No pool, no swimsuits, just sweaters– well technically we had swimsuits under the sweaters. The shoot was at Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce, formations created by erosions 25 Million years ago (fun fact). These weren’t just any rock formations, they are some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes that Los Angeles has to offer.

This shoot was a great opportunity for the ‘Lillies to get out of the water and on the land for some great sweater weather shots. We asked a couple of the ‘Lillies what is their favorite part about sweater weather here is what they had to say:

“My favorite part of the holiday season is the music! That’s all I listen to from the day after Thanksgiving until New Years.” – TINA

“I love this time of year, because everyone is a little more focused on making other people happy.” – PAIGE

“During the holiday season I love cozying up in snowy Minnesota with my loved ones, a yummy peppermint hot chocolate, and a crackling fire” – SARAH

“Food, Family, Fun!!! And it means to take a break and reflect on everything that’s happened this last year, and plan all the growth for next.” – ALYSHA

NYFW WITH CHROMAT

Last night was another one for the books. Aqualillies NYC made a splash at the Chromat’s NYFW after party! Staying on trend with the rest of Fashion Week, this party was full of innovation.

Our ‘Lillies were each wearing a different style from Chromat’s BOND swimwear line, as they danced around guests decked out in caged outerwear and colorful other worldly hair colors.

“NYC during Fashion Week is always magical, fun, fierce, and very very New York,” said ‘Lilly Gio.

Chromat’s daring designs were the stars of this party… Aqualillies were modern models and the pool was the runway!

AQUA GLAM: AQUALILLIES X GRAY MALIN

It’s a pretty known fact that the Aqualillies are inspired by all things glamorous and try to emulate the retro grace of Esther Williams. So when we heard that photographer Gray Malin was inspired in the same way we jumped at the chance to work with him.

Gray’s photography seems to take the something simple and make it absolutely gorgeous. His past collections of beach goers can be seen on surfboards and hung on walls of the most swanky homes. The Aqua Glam series is aimed to take audiences back to the glamorous mid century era, when poolside lounging was basically it’s own art form. See the all the images below …

APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS

We were so excited to have done so many shows in Los Angeles this month! We are just now catching our breath. Each show was amazing and exciting in it’s own way, we wanted to show all our fans a run down of everything that we’ve been up to…

SWIM WITH HEART EVENT

We were very excited to start off the busy season with a charity event for Swim with Heart, and non-profit that specializes in teaching children and adults swimming skills.

TARGET EVENT AT THE TERRANEA RESORT

The Terranea Resort is always one of the most beautiful locations we preform at, but with Target pops of red everywhere including our swimwear it sizzled even more.

ACE HOTEL DOWNTOWN LA

This Ace Hotel performance was unique because not only was the pool tiny, but we put on some black high heels to make things even more interesting!

ANNENBERG EVENT

We wrapped up the busy month at the Annenberg Beach House, which is our home away from home. The event was for the anniversary for the club, and we got dolled up in sleek black & white swimsuits for the occasion.

A REAL SIMPLE TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY

Hitting newsstands today is the May issue of Real Simple Magazine! You may recognize a few familiar faces in this month’s edition 😉 This past February, our Los Angeles ‘Lillies flew to New York City to meet up with our NYC ‘Lillies, for an underwater photoshoot for the magazine!

“I did the St. Motel video shoot but it was a different style because that was a 3D video and these for Real Simple will be still shots,” ‘Lilly Kate said as we were getting ready to board our flight, “to be honest I don’t know what to expect but this is already way better than I could have imagined.”

The shooting location is the pool at the iconic 214 Lafayette: a five story townhouse in SoHo where Beyoncé shot her “Halo” music video! The photographer was placed one floor down, shooting from behind a window that looked directly into the pool (so cool!).

“For me, the hardest part of underwater photos was not floating to the surface and smiling even though water is going straight up your nose,” our ‘Lilly Georgia said.

“Most of the time, the photographer would wait until we were transitioning between poses before he snapped shots of us in motion,” explained ‘Lilly Kate, “sometimes he would relay a message through his assistants saying what was working, and what movements he would like to see again to try and capture.”

Here are a few of the photos from the issue, go to the nearest newsstand to get your copy!

Check out this video that features more Aqualillies underwater modeling: the Saint Motel Underwater 3D shoot that our ‘Lilly Kate mentioned earlier.
