CASTING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Aqualillies?

Founded in 2008 in Los Angeles, Aqualillies is a water entertainment company with teams across the United States and around the world.  Performing in front of the camera or at live events, our past projects and clients include the Coen Brothers Hail, Caesar!, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Beyoncé, Warner Brothers, Justin Bieber, Hermès, Adidas, TED Conferences, Ariana Grande, and many more. Our goal is to inspire people with beauty, grace, and spectacle, bringing to life the magic of the universe through artistic swimming and dance.  By following our dreams we hope to encourage others to do the same: to free their imagination, seek out adventure, believe in themselves and their power to make the world a better place. We also offer synchronized swimming classes to the public in select locations so that we can inspire people to feel good about their bodies and have fun in the pool.

What type of experience do I need to be a Performer?

Performer candidates must have a strong background in EITHER 1) artistic swimming or 2) dance in order to be considered.  Only one specialty is required in order to apply.  Candidates applying as Dancers are not required to know artistic swimming, but must have strong basic swimming skills.  We are seeking strong and skilled candidates, however no particular minimum achievement level (Olympics, National Team) is required.

If you don’t have a background in artistic swimming or dance, but are interested in learning artistic swimming, we offer artistic swimming fitness classes which do not require any experience. These classes are a beginner introduction to the sport of artistic swimming (they are not meant to be preparation or training for the performance team). Find more information here.

What type of experience do I need to be a Show Manager?

Show Manager candidates must have strong managerial and organizational skills, as well as comfort with leading a team and interfacing with company clients.  Ideal candidates have artistic swimming coaching experience and are comfortable coaching and cleaning routine choreography. Past experience working in the events industry and/or professional theater productions is a plus.

What type of experience do I need to be a Fitness Instructor?

Fitness Instructor candidates should have artistic swimming coaching experience, as well as strong managerial and organizational skills, and comfort with leading a group class and interfacing with class members (our classes are designed to be open to the public and a beginner introduction to the sport of artistic swimming.  Students will be able to swim, but no synchro experience is required).  Ideal Fitness Instructor candidates are patient, enthusiastic and encouraging, with a strong background in teaching basic artistic swimming skills and choreography.

If cast, how does it work?

We are hiring Performers, Show Managers and Fitness Instructors for inclusion on our roster to be considered for casting opportunities (live shows, on-camera shoots, and fitness classes).  We contact this roster when a casting opportunity arises, and people sign up for consideration to be cast in that opportunity on a case-by-case basis. There is no requirement to be available for all projects or to participate in all show opportunities – you only sign up for consideration for the jobs you are interested in and available for. The frequency of performance opportunities varies depending on the location, but for most of our performers, Aqualillies is not a full-time job.  Many people participate with the company alongside their other individual career opportunities as a way to continue with the sport. Rehearsal and show days and time commitments vary.  However, a typical show day is roughly between a 5-8 hour commitment, with occasional rehearsals required in the days beforehand. All opportunities are paid, and payment rate varies depending on the type of event and the time commitment required.

“Performing with Aqualillies has allowed me to extend living out my passion for artistic swimming. They take the unique skills we swimmers have worked so hard to acquire throughout our lives to a professional level in the performing industry and open up the opportunity for memorable experiences at events, film and television.”

— Nadine Brandl, Performer

“I joined Aqualillies as a Show Manager about 8-9 years ago. I was coaching with WCA at the time, and thought it would be something fun to do outside of competitive synchro.  Being a Show Manager has taught me how to not only make sure the show is going to run smoothly, but has also taught me how to deal with the clients and be able to produce great hospitality from Aqualillies.  Working with the ‘Lillies has also allowed for me to meet new swimmers, and reconnect with former athletes that I used to see at competitions when I swam for SCA…working shows is a great way to reunite with some of those people, while creating a fun and energetic way to share the beauty that is our sport.”

— Yuliya Roysental, Show Manager

“I LOVE being a part of the Aquawillies [male performance team]! I’ve gotten to swim in some amazing pools and perform for some very cool celebrities. Keeping the aquatics part of my background and upbringing alive makes me happier than I expected it to and for that I’m super thankful.”

— Karl Warden, Performer & Show Manager
